If you are planning a trip to India or backpacking around Indian states in 2025, you cannot do it without going digital. We are so dependent on social media, applications and internet that you need to have a smartphone and internet connection all the time.
Of course, you can travel with digital detox in mind but that is only good for short term travel. For anyone planning a long trip around India, here are some applications that you must download.
Also don’t forget to have two sim cards if possible.

Uber is the best travel application in India. There are other applications like Ola and Rapido as well, but the safety and security guaranteed by Uber is better than its competitors. Uber is also an international business, so it makes sense for them to have a better customer support compared to Ola which is only in India.

Bla Bla Car operates in India by connecting a rider with someone offering a ride. You can search for the place from where you are traveling to the place you want to go, and you may find some rides. Most of these rides run on shared payment so negotiate in advance. Also, as a precaution, always go with riders who have existing reviews other someone who is new. But it is totally dependent on your choices.

Unlike many other countries, Google Maps work perfectly in India. The application has multiple uses including finding events in your vicinity. The directions are based on your travel mode, i.e., on foot or driving and it also gives you time and routes for local buses, metros and trains.

There are several travel booking apps in India, most foreigners prefer using Booking.com which is something I prefer. But if you need an all-in-one app that also allows you to book buses, trains and cabs along with hotels and flights then Goibibo is one of the best apps that you can have. Its customer support is also better than many other Indian travel apps.

If you are planning a long-term solo travel in India then chances are that you will book trains more than once. IRCTC rail connect is the application that will help you book and track your train tickets on the move. This app also makes it each to book tickets at the last moment if you have the right payment modes activated.

Practo is an aggregator app that provides details of all the doctors and medical specialists in your vicinity. You can segregate the doctors based on the specialty and choose the best one through reviews.

The world is unpredictable and with political and climate changes happening all of a sudden everywhere it is important to keep emergency apps like Sitata in your phone. It provides real time alerts on any emergency that will help you plan in advance.

I am clubbing Booking and AirBnb in one point because these two are the most popular applications among travelers from all over the world. You can use Booking if you want to pay later at the hotel or hostel. But make sure that these hotels and hostels ask for advance payment otherwise they cancel the booking. So, speak with them first. If you are looking for a most wholesome experience of staying with a local host or a family, then AirBnb is the best option.

With an app like WeGo, it becomes easy to book flight tickets and compare them with various competitors. With WeGo, it becomes easier to book flight tickets with cheapest prices. You can also use WeGo to see the rate of flight tickets at which the price is the lowest.
Local Transport Apps
Lastly, there are many local transport apps like Delhi metro app, Mumbai local app, Chennai metro app and so on. These apps provide live updates on the metro, bus, local trans travel schedule along with delays and ticket. Keep these apps depending on the city where you are traveling.
So, these were some of the apps that will make traveling in India easier for you. For any suggestions, help and tips, you can contact me on my Instagram and YouTube.
